You might have heard about ASR or AAR as pool professionals are now referring to this widespread pool gunite issue. ASR or Alkali-Silica Reaction is this newly found issue in Texas pools. Often referred to as "Concrete Cancer", this problem has garnered the attention of many. ASR is caused by a single missing ingredient, fly ash, in the concrete mix used to gunite a pool. As everyone is scrambling to understand and rectify the pools affected by ASR, Austintatious Pools it proud to offer ASR core drilling! We will drill a core sample and have it tested for you, so you don't have to worry about this first, crucial step in the process of bringing your pool back to life.
Many companies are booked up for core samples, we have provided concrete core extractions for our Austintatious Pools- but now opening up to the public for appointments -for Central Texas pools- built between 2019-2021.
Prices between $8k-$10k can be a massive hurdle so we are offering a $6500 fall special that's good until Nov 1st, 2024.
The sooner the better to get your core in line for testing process. We are available for immediate core extraction, testing usually takes 5-7 weeks
If your pool company & shotcrete installer are "Out of Business" and their insurance maximums paid out for "Defective Construction", you might want to consult with our team for alternatives to the total "Remove & Replace" your pool. We have been working on a process that might be able to "save your structure" and after replaster and re-tile, may just save your summer swim season.
In order to make an insurance claim or file a lawsuit, you must first prove your pool has concrete cancer through a petrographic test and analysis.
Texas insurance law requires the "Burden of Poof" fall on the homeowner when making a claim.
After confirming that your pool has ASR, you have a few options on what to do. One option is the Miracote system that we have found success in using to revive a pool from the depths of an unsavory ASR test result.

The Pool in a Pool option is exactly what it sounds like. We will add some waterproofing material and then pour another gunite shell inside the pool so there is a slightly smaller version of your pool that is without ASR.
By far the most well-known solution and the first one that comes to mind is to remove the entire build and start from an empty hole to build the pool/spa back to its former glory. This is the most time-consuming option, however this option comes with the most security against further issues.
The saddest option is to simply remove the structure and fill in the hole as safely as possible. The quickest and often most cost-effective option is to remove the pool/spa and simply dispel the headache all together.
